deus absconditus

can’t breathe
in an empty room
stillborn
in an empty womb
scale the walls
harnessed by all
that is false in God.
He left us to die here, alone.*
just couldn’t bear to tell us himself.
when you have the universe, you don’t need a pet.

* Pilgrim at Tinker Creek (Anne Dillard) “Pascal uses a nice term to describe the notion of the creator’s, once having called forth the universe, turning his back to it: Deus Absconditus.” (page 9).
